Angler's Alibi Alaska

Alaska Fishing Lodge - Remote Location
Fly in Fishing

Angler's Alibi Alaska Fishing Lodge is on the remote Alagnak River 23 miles North of King Salmon Alaska, which has a combined run of over 3 million King, Sockeye, Silver, Chum and Pink Salmon each year plus a huge resident population of Trophy Rainbow Trout and Grayling. Some of the very best fly fishing water on the Alagnak River is literally right out our front door. King Salmon is approximately 290 miles S.S.W. of Anchorage in the famous Bristol Bay area of Alaska.

As they say in business and real estate, location is everything. Even in Alaska this is especially true for fishing.

I have been guiding and hosting guests in this famous Illiamna Trophy Trout Area of Bristol Bay since 1975. When we first flew in to the Alagnak River in 1976 we knew that it was something special, but it took us many years to truly learn the water and realize how unbelievable it was. When we finally chose the location for Angler's Alibi it had to be as close to the salt water as possible, as this is where millions of Salmon stage before going up river to spawn. At this time they are chrome bright, still in their ocean feeding patterns and absolutely full of fight. I have always preferred wading to fishing out of a boat, so the water also had to offer easy wading.

Many years ago we found the perfect location, just six miles up the river from Kvichak Bay and the Bering Sea. The added bonus was that it is a beautiful setting in birch and spruce trees with a panoramic view of the river and only a 30-minute floatplane trip to the famous Brooks and Moraine Rivers and other streams (that we will leave unnamed) in the over four million acre Katmai National Park. Many things have changed in the last 27 years, but not the fishing; the salmon and trout are as numerous as ever. As time went on, more people discovered the Alagnak, (now there are three other lodges on the river and for area fly-out lodges, visiting the Alagnak is a priority) but they have to travel miles by boat or floatplane to get to where we are. Our location makes us first on the water each day and we can honestly say that no one knows the river better or catches more fish than we do.

The Alagnak River is over 60 miles long and even on those days when it seems every fly-out lodge wants to fish there it is not crowded, so our guests can spend many hours on the water without seeing another fisherman.
